Lexmark C750 Color Laser Review

The Lexmark C750 color laser printer is an impressive option. Originally priced at just over $2000 for the base model (without network port) it can now be found for about $1000. That makes this printer a very attractive option for people looking for high quality color printing for very low cost.

A lot of print quality for a little money

The Lexmark C750 color laser is a true 1200 by 1200 dpi printer. This equals "best in price range" print quality on plain paper. For around the same price your looking at only 600 dpi models from HP.

Black letters are always dark and easy to read, and they had a glossy shine easily distinguished against a white background. Even with darkly printed text, the Lexmark boasts a 60,000-page-per-month duty cycle. This is twice the duty cycle of comparable HP or Minolta printers.

In graphics printing it is a top performer. Photographs come out great due to the glossy finish the printer apply's. Scanned photographs can look truly photographic even on standard printer paper with default print settings.

Here are the specifications:

  • black: up to 20 ppm
  • color: up to 20 ppm
  • Total Media Capacity 600 sheets
  • 1200 dpi x 1200 dpi for both black and color
  • monthly volume: 60,000 pages

If you have high volume requirements you can pay a little extra to get the Lexmark C750dn which includes a network port (for sharing on the network) and a 250 duplex unit. With 600 sheet input tray this printer can hold a lot of media but it does fall short of the 875 sheets a fully expanded HP 2500 can handle. However if you're going to compare the Lexmark C750dn can have 2000 sheet draw added far surpassing any other printer in this price range.

With a generous standard memory allocation of 64 MB this is a well appointed printer. With it's high speed and high resolution print engine you will be hard pressed to find a better deal, especially in light of recent price drops.

2003 is the year of the color laser printer and with models like the Lexmark C750 it is becoming harder to justify buying an inkjet.
