Okidata C7200 Color Laser Review

Okidata C7200 Color Laser Printer was designed with high workloads in mind. If you value reliability and low total cost of ownership then this color laser printer review is worth a look. Originally priced at around $3500 this printer has had it's share of price cuts and can now be found for under $2000.

Oki has a good reputation and is certainly no spring chicken when it comes to building industry grade color and monochrome laser printers.

The Okidata C7200 color laser printer offers true 600 by 1200 dpi printer at up to 20 ppm (for monochrome printing). You also get a standard 64 mb of memory which can be upgraded to a massive 1Gb. This printer was top of the line when it was released nearly 2 years ago and the recent price cuts have done nothing but increase it's appeal.

The Oki c7200 has long life consumables

It's great to see toner cartridges rated at 10,000 pages and the image drums lasting approx. 30,000 pages continuous printing or 20,000 pages at 3 pages per job. This is a true high volume printer. This fact is reinforced by a large expandable input paper capacity. 2 extra input paper draws can be added increasing capacity to 1690 sheets.

The Oki c7200 can be heavily expanded with network, full duplex and even a 5Gb hard disk drive. This printer really is a powerhouse and at this price will certainly suit any high volume office.

Print quality is excellent but does fall a little short of the newer true 1200 by 1200 models. Color graphics look great with no color banding and monochrome text of course looks crisp.

Here are the specifications:

  • black: up to 20 ppm
  • color: up to 12 ppm
  • Total Media Capacity 500 sheets expandable to 1690
  • 600 dpi x 1200 dpi for both black and color
  • Single pass color technology for high speed printing

A close competitor that comes to mind when thinking of this printer is the Panasonic WORKiO KX-CL500. The Panasonic is a little cheaper and can print at slightly higher resolutions but doesn't have capability to print the volumes that the Oki can. If you have high volume requirements then I would recommend the Oki c7200.
